Today we’d like to introduce you to Betty Krachey.
Hi Betty, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got into the Notary Loan Signing business to help a friend who’s a real estate broker out. I just did this as a side gig to help out a few friends who couldn’t find a notary on weekends or after hours.
I kept getting busier and busier, just from word of mouth, and in just a few months I was doing Loan Signings full-time. I’ve been a business owner most of my working life. I started out owning convenience stores. I’ve run and owned stores in Florida and in Tennessee.
I’ve been doing background acting since 2015, mostly for true crime reenactments.
I also rehab wildlife. Which is my favorite “work” to do! I’ve been rehabbing wildlife since I was a kid. I’ve raised and released raccoons (my favorite), squirrels, foxes, coyotes, wolves, alligators, armadillos, possums, and more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The pandemic had a lot of obstacles & challenges. I became a remote online notary to be able to meet with clients who had no other option but to meet online to have their important documents signed and notarized because an in-person visit wasn’t an option. I was also meeting remotely with US citizens who couldn’t get back into the country due to the pandemic in 2020.
We’ve been impressed with Smoky Mountain Notary, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mobile and Online Notary Services. I am able to meet with clients in person in the Knoxville, TN area to get documents notarized. From a single page to an entire loan package.
I am able to meet clients anywhere in the world they’re located online to get documents signed and notarized. I’ve met with people all over the word online. One of my regular online clients is in Australia and we’ve met online several times to do his seller docs for property he still has here in Tennessee.
Since I started keeping track of my loan closings, in 2017, I’ve done over 4,000 loan closings. I’ve completed over 1,000 remote online signings in the last year – most being general notary documents.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Illinois. I was always bringing home animals to take care of. I & my mother raised a lot of baby animals when I was growing up. I moved to Florida not long after getting out of high school and lived there for 6 years.
In 1992, I moved to Tennessee – where I’ve wanted to live since the first time I remember coming here at 5 years old! We always vacationed in the Smoky Mountains area a lot when I was a kid. Tennessee was always my favorite spot out of everywhere I’ve been!
