Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Rector.
Hi Erin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Like a lot of people, I grew up very awkward and shy. My number one goal in life was just to fit in. I followed the path that I was told I should follow, went to school, found a career, got married. In my early twenties, I realized that I was not living true to myself.
I ended up getting divorced and leaving my career. I ended up working as a Business Consultant. I had a passion for helping businesses grow and operate to their highest potentials. I spent the first 12 years in this field working for one of the largest business consulting companies for the food industry in North America.
I worked with top household name brands in developing, executing, and maintaining their business strategies. In late 2019, I was laid off due to cutbacks, and shortly after that, the pandemic began.
During this time, I decided that I wanted to help entrepreneurs build their dream businesses and venture out on my own. I have been through a lot of ups and downs as a business owner. Especially during these uncertain times.
I have focused the last year on entrepreneurs and showing them how – through confidence, process, and consistency – they too can build their dream businesses. I want to show everyone that has a dream, to chase it with confidence and passion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
HA! I feel like I’m on a road filled with potholes and hidden curves. Two of the biggest obstacles are self-doubt and watching what everyone else is doing. This is why confidence is at the forefront of everything I do. You have to have confidence in who you are and what you are doing. Once you get past that, the road is smooth(er).
Work/life balance is another challenge. It takes a lot of work to get up and running, and there are times it can be exhausting. Time management has been a big learning curve for me and is now part of my business process for my clients, as well as myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Business Strategist who coaches her clients on how to have confidence in their businesses as a WHOLE. I don’t just focus on one or two specific areas, but assess a business from all aspects, to make sure it is healthy and generates income. Entrepreneurs often wear many hats and can lose sight of the bigger picture, including their passions.
It is my job to step in as a support structure and guide – to provide insight, clarity, strategy, and a plan of action, keeping what my clients do the best top of mind. I love providing my expertise in operations, talent, marketing, finances, and leadership. I offer one-on-one coaching and group mentorship.
I can provide short-term coaching to get a business up and running, such as an intensive program, or long-term coaching, to really play an integral role in the business.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe the risk is something an entrepreneur comes up against every day. Starting a business is a risk in itself. It is important to take risks and build resiliency when it comes to failure since that is how we grow.
It is also important to evaluate any risks to understand negative consequences that can arise, and make a decision from there. I took a risk in starting my business, especially since I am very successful in my full-time role. It is a goal of mine to shift into my business full-time by the end of 2022.
But I know that this risk will become a regret if I do not take it. We only have one life to live!
