Meet Sydney Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Myers.

Sydney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always loved making things from a really young age. Everything from little watercolor sets to the how-to books at the library to watch the DIY channel with my grandma. Anything arts and crafts I could get my hands on just sparked something in me.

With Peek-a-Boo Petals it was just supposed to be a weekend project of making the felt flowers for a wreath but turned into more felt flowers than I could possibly count and shifted from wreaths to a baby headband, children’s accessories, and hats for kids and adults.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If it had been a smooth road it probably wouldn’t be worth it, which is probably true for most things in life. 2020 was of course a huge obstacle for most people and makers. Craft Shows were really the Peek-a-Boo Petals bread and butter before. Now I have grown my online presence out of necessity but has been something that was needed even prior to 2020.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize specifically in felt flowers. I hand-cut all of the components of the flowers. Every single petal is made by me. I don’t have any templates so every flower, like real flowers, is just a little unique.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think we are in a really fantastic city that really values handmade goods, I believe that supporting locals will only grow in popularity. Especially with the opening of places like the Kerns Market which seem to be great places for local businesses to thrive.
