Daily Inspiration: Meet Megan Jenkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Jenkins.

Hi Megan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from King University in 2015 with a Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and was unsure of what my next step was. I applied to the Disney College Program on a whim and was accepted! I moved to Disney World the summer after graduating from college.

I loved working with the guests at the parks and making friends with all of my favorite Disney characters. Unfortunately, I decided it was time to “grow up” and move back home from Disney after my internship ended. Once again on a whim, I decided to apply to dental hygiene school and was accepted to a school in Madisonville, TN. A few short years later, I graduated and have been working at the same office since then.

Northshore Smiles is my home away from home (right behind Disney World). During this time, I had a daughter, Ava Reign, and I decided I wanted her life to be just as magical as mine and created my Instagram. I love sharing ways to bring the magic of Disney into our everyday lives.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think my life has been super hard, but I have faced certain challenges along the way. My biggest struggle was juggling a newborn while attending hygiene school, and trying to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle as a single mother. Ava helped me learn how to prioritize and stay organized in order to graduate on time, while also realizing in order to provide for her, I needed to be as healthy (physically and mentally) as possible!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a registered dental hygienist. I love providing the utmost best care to all my patients while also getting to know them all on a personal level. My number one goal is to make every patient as comfortable as possible, as I know dental anxiety and fear are so relevant. I try to bring a magical and happy atmosphere to my workplace by wearing Disney-themed outfits and fun socks!

Currently, I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to graduate from hygiene school while raising my newborn daughter as a single mother. I would say the one thing that sets me apart from others is I try my best to see the magic in everyone, maybe it’s the kid in me (or the Disney training) but I love being able to make people laugh.

I use my Instagram as a platform to share magical Disney things while also educating people on periodontal disease and what it’s like to be a dental hygienist. I also love to travel and love to share tips and tricks of taking kids to Disney and to other places around the country!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say perseverance and never giving up. I had previously applied to one other hygiene school and wasn’t accepted due to being pregnant during my interview process. Luckily, I applied to another school and was accepted. Looking back, if I had given up after the first denial, my life would be completely different. So never give up!

Northshore Smiles is my home away from home (right after Disney World). I love working with the Knoxville community and encouraging healthier hygiene habits and brighter smiles. I also have a five year old daughter, Ava. Having Ava encouraged me to create my Instagram page where I share how to incorporate Disney magic into every day life, dental information, traveling around the United States, and balancing motherhood while working full time. I love sharing ways to bring the magic of Disney into our everyday lives. I also love collaborating with Knoxville businesses to show our community all the fun things to do in our town!
