Rising Stars: Meet SKYWAY61

Today we’d like to introduce you to SKYWAY61.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As brothers, Zak and Kaleb have been writing and playing music together since they were young. Brittanni began playing drums at 7 years old.

She and Zak met in 2013 and later married in 2017. Together Zak, Kaleb, and Brittanni formed SkyWay 61 in the summer of 2017. In the summer of 2021 Johnny, Zak and Kaleb’s youngest brother joined the band as the lead singer.

A few short weeks later Alex joined as the rhythm guitarist. This is the lineup everyone knows and loves today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a challenging road for all of us. Five big personalities in the same room for hours a week makes for an interesting experience.

But we wouldn’t change a thing! We love playing music and connecting with the East TN music scene. We’ve made some amazing lifelong friends simply by playing with other great local artists.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We all have full-time jobs. Zak and Johnny work in the automotive industry, Alex and Brittanni work in human resources, and Kaleb works in the HVAC industry. Our goal is to be the next KISS but better.

What makes you happy?
We work really hard and we have high ambitions. When we reach a goal, play for a big crowd or really rock a venue, we feel great! Seeing our hard work pay off is the best payoff.

Seeing people get down and rock to our music is why we do what we do. We’re always striving to go bigger, higher, and be better.
