Meet Aliyah Davis of Knox County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aliyah Davis

Hi Aliyah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Aliyah! I love photography, travel, the beach and my family! During my high school years, I never really knew what I wanted to be. I had ideas of what sounded fun, or exciting, but it was never things that I felt I wanted to pursue. The one thing I knew for sure, is that I wanted to own my own business and be my own boss. So, when graduation came around, I decided to take the plunge and not pursue college. Insanity, right? Instead I bought my first $600 camera and went out into the world of photography. That was 2 years ago, as of May, 2024.

For the last 2 years, I have poured hours of time, money, energy, resources, and love into this business I’m building. It’s been a journey. I’m so grateful for all of the support I have received from my family, friends, and community. I wouldn’t be here without them! I’ve experienced good seasons, and bad ones, as any business owner. But overall, I love my business, I love my clients, and I absolutely love what I do. It’s a true blessing to love your job so much that it makes you feel as if you’re never working.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to becoming a good business owner is never easy. It comes with its own challenges like every job. A personal struggle I had when starting my business was finding clients. When I first started, my question was not “How can I make money fast?”, but rather, “How can I build a credible name for my company, and earn the trust of my clients?”. So, I began giving free sessions left and right to anyone who would take a chance on me, handing out business cards, and advertising all over social media. Trust me, it took a while for me to get my name out there. I believe one of the biggest challenges in this field is patience. But I’ve learned that if I can stay patient and be consistent, it all pays off in the end.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Photographer that specializes in weddings, lifestyle, events, milestones, and truthfully, anything else you can think of!

I believe, in a market like photography, there has to be something that sets me apart from other creators. For me, that “something” is my turnaround time. I’ve had the privilege of being a full time photographer, which allows me to spend most of my time (when I’m not shooting) editing. So I’m able to get my clients their galleries sent back in just a couple of days. Even with weddings and big events, I do my best to have them sent back in 1 to 2 weeks. I feel that’s what truly sets me apart from other creators in my field of work!

I think I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve built not just a business, but something that means so much to me personally and something that allows me to connect with so many amazing people, and grow my knowledge and passion for my work.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
When Covid-19 hit, it was catastrophic for business owners. I personally was not in business during the time of Covid. But I witnessed as many business owners I know, unfortunately, went under due to the lack of commerce. What I learned from that experience is this. We never know when tragedy could come. As business owners, we have to do our best to be as prepared as we can be for any trial that may come. I hope that we all learned a very important lesson during the pandemic, as business owners, and as people.
