Check Out Lauren Ailor’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Ailor.

Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been in love with art since my very first art class in 6th grade. Art is very therapeutic to me, and I feel that I am most connected to God and at peace when I am painting.

It started as a hobby that became something that I was passionate about, and it has gradually become my area of expertise. I have always loved painting, but I never had the time to pursue art as a legitimate source of income — until Covid hit.

During the pandemic, my employer started having its employees work in weekly shifts, so we would work for one week and be home for the next. During this time, I made the decision to start actively pursuing my art and finally start the art business that I always dreamed of having.

I had my first showing in May of 2022, and I am so excited to see where my art career will take me. I hope and dream that others will love my paintings as much as I do, and I am so thankful for the people who have already supported me in this pursuit! I am so blessed to have been given the time to be able to create my paintings, and I truly believe that God is going to use my art for His glory.

He gave me the talent and the desire to do this, and He is the one who will bring these dreams to fruition. Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” Until he brings these dreams to pass, I am going to continue faithfully where I am, as a mother by day and a painter by night, serving the Lord as best as I can in everything that I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started painting, I never thought it would take me to where I am today. I thought that the art world was too complex and my talents were too small to ever succeed in this larger scene. This, coupled with a lack of time, prevented me from even trying to create my artwork for others.

I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to slow down, and that my husband consistently encouraged me to follow my dreams. Without my husband’s unwavering support for me and God providing the time for me to create, I may never have even tried to pursue painting.

Even now, finding the time to create art can be a challenge! I am now a stay-at-home mother of two beautiful children, and as anyone who has had young children knows, time can be very limited. I paint when I can, during nap times and after bedtime, and do my very best to soak in all of the time in between.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My style is unique, unconventional, and groundbreaking. I paint a variety of subjects, including landscapes and pet portraits upon request, but the primary focus of my artwork is botanical subjects.

I create three-dimensional artwork, using an unstretched canvas that is cut into the shape of petals and leaves to build onto a traditional canvas and create works of art that are not confined to the four sides of the frame. I use bold colors that further serve to make the subject of the painting the sole focus of the art.

I strive to show the beauty of God’s creation with my art in ways that a traditional landscape could never achieve. My flowers are bold and bright, and they command the viewer’s attention. These three-dimensional flower paintings are unlike any other art that I have ever seen, and they are made in a style that is uniquely mine.

Another thing that separates my artwork from the rest is the fact that I never make the same painting twice. Each work of art is completely unique and will never have a print or replica made of it. In a world of uniformity and mass-produced home decor, my art is a breath of fresh air. Each painting is tailor-made for the customer so that it will exactly suit their tastes.

I have made artworks that have special meaning as well. One of my favorite paintings that I have made was of a couple’s wedding flowers. Each part of that painting had special meaning to the customer, and the result was a painting that was entirely hers and was unlike anything that she could have bought from a store.

It may be cheaper to purchase mass-produced prints from a store, but they are just that – cheap. Having a custom piece of art is priceless. It’s your home, you should fill it with things that you love and that speak to you.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be to follow your dreams! The world says that you will be a starving artist, but if God gives you the dream, he can bring it to pass. Even if you never sell your art, you can create beauty, and that in itself is enough.
