Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lanzilotta.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I definitely didn’t start out thinking I’d own a boutique! I’m actually a nurse by trade & have spent years caring for people and balancing a pretty wild life with my husband and four kids. But fashion has always been my creative outlet, my way of expressing confidence and reminding myself that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish.
I started The Dressing Room because I wanted women to feel seen, strong, and beautiful, not just on the outside, but in that real ‘I’ve-got-this’ kind of way. I ‘ve been the girl to struggle with self-doubt and body image, and I realized there was a gap during the shopping experience that women were craving clothes and help with styling that made them feel confident, not just trendy.
It started small, like in my husband’s man cave small, with my family helping in every way possible… my husband running boxes, my kids helping with photos, and my mom always lending a hand and cheering me on. And somehow, through faith, grit, and a lot of coffee, it’s grown into this beautiful community of women who empower each other through style. That’s the part that keeps me going.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Not even close. It’s been more like a dirt road with potholes and no GPS. Haha! Between juggling my nursing job, raising four kids, and trying to learn everything about running a business from scratch, there were a lot of moments I wondered what in the world I was doing.
Inventory debt, tech headaches, the social media world, burnout, mom guilt… you name it, I’ve cried about it in the back room more than a little. But every challenge taught me something about grit, grace, and letting go of perfection. I learned that growth is always messy, but it’s worth it when you see a woman light up because she finally feels confident in her own skin.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At The Dressing Room, we’re more than just clothes… we’re about confidence and love… love of others and self-love. I see it as my creative outlet and my own personal ministry in the world. I always say we dress women from the inside out. We specialize in helping women find pieces that make them feel good, not just look good.
I think what we’re known for is the vibe…. women walk in and immediately feel like they belong. It’s not a high-pressure shopping experience; it’s girlfriends cheering each other on, laughing in the fitting room, and walking out taller than when they came in.
What I’m most proud of isn’t the clothes or the growth, it’s the community. Watching women rediscover their confidence and seeing moms, daughters, and friends come in together; that’s what fills my cup. What sets us apart is heart that shows up in our customer service: We’re real people, living real life, and we believe confidence is the best outfit you can wear. We are not cashiers, we are retail therapists. 😉
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t do it all… and you’re not supposed to. I used to think success meant keeping every ball in the air, being the perfect mom, boss, wife, and woman. But somewhere along the way, I learned that grace goes a lot farther than perfection.
There’s beauty in the messy middle — in showing up tired but still showing up. I’ve learned that confidence doesn’t come from having it all together; it comes from trusting that God’s using even the chaos for something good. So although my mission with The Dressing Room is to ‘Build Confidence & Closets,” it’s actually shown me a side of confidence in myself about strength, resiliency, faithful trust, and knowing it’s ok to delegate, ask for help, and let go of the control sometimes! I’m a control freak by nature, so that has definitely been the biggest struggle for me.
